Winner of the Health Promotion category of the 2007 FIBO Innovation Awards was Kettler's Tour Concept 1.0 training software.
With it, the company has developed what it believes is the world's first GPS-assisted exercise bike.
The software simulates training rides on the basis of real topographical features previously recorded during a real cycle tour. A PDA device (Personal Digital Assistant) produces a GPS (Global Positioning System) recording of the course which is then directly transmitted via the software to the Kettler Ergometer.
As a result, any course can now be repeated in a training room with the reverse also being possible. Using the interactive maps, a tour can be planned on a PC, prepared in indoor training sessions and repeated outdoors with GPS navigation.
The system allows up to eight people to exercise with or against each other, the performance controls on the bikes responding automatically to the topographical features of the real course.
Training data such as performance in watts, heart rate, course and duration of training are transmitted simultaneously to the course coach, represented graphically and stored.
Of the other two award categories, Nautilus Deutschland won the Training Equipment sector with its TreadClimber® machine, while LSP Sporternahrung's VASO NO-X® nutrient complex won that for Sports Nutrition.
